Two Kansas State University students were selected from nearly 9,000 applicants as recipients of scholarships from the National Military Family Association.
Heather Wooden, senior in dietetics, Virginia Beach, Virginia, is receiving the scholarship. The other scholarship recipient requested to remain anonymous.
The association awards scholarships to military spouses for a variety of educational and professional pursuits, including any level of degree, certification programs, professional exams and fees, licensure, trade school and more.
Wooden, whose husband is in the U.S. Navy, said continuing education while moving every few years and enduring separations from one's spouse can be a challenge, but it's manageable with faith in God and a positive perspective.
"I keep the bigger picture in mind and focus on that," Wooden said. "While doing so, I am finding that the bigger picture is far more perfect than my own."
About 600 military spouses from across the nation received scholarships from the association this year.
"With moving around every few years it's important for spouses to have the opportunity to continue their education and we support them in doing so," said Joyce Raezer, executive director of the association.
