Department heads: Learn about changing student organization policies
Submitted by Center for Student Involvement
As a result of the new vision for K-State’s Division of Student Life, the offices of Student Activities and Services and Fraternity and Sorority Life joined together to create the Center for Student Involvement.
Beginning in the fall 2017 semester the Center for Student Involvement will be the university’s point of contact for student organizations and will function according to a newly developed student organization policy. These changes may affect a department’s responsibilities related to student groups close to the department.
Department heads or their designees are encouraged to attend a meeting at 3 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 17, in the Wildcat Chamber, formerly the Little Theatre, in the K-State Student Union to learn important information about the reorganization. Staff from the center will discuss new categories and types of student organizations and answer questions.
The new policy divides student groups into two categories: Departmental Student Organizations, or DSOs, and Independent Student Organizations, or ISOs. DSOs will include many academic groups and other student organizations that are integrated into the daily operation of a department or unit. ISOs are groups that provide great opportunities for students to develop leadership and other skills, but they remain independent and are not part of the university. A graphic representation of the new model is pictured below.
Read more information about the new policy or see the FAQ on the center's website.
If you are unable to attend, the meeting will be streamed and archived at k-state.edu/student-involvement.
