Industrial engineering senior presents research at state environmental conference
Carolyn Countess, senior in industrial engineering, presented research from her internship with the Kansas State University Pollution Prevention Intern Program at the Kansas Environmental Conference on Aug. 10.
During the 10-week internship, Countess worked at CST Storage in Parsons, Kansas researching energy-efficiency projects associated with air compressors, water heating systems, air conditioning and oven technologies. Her efforts identified potential savings of $89,000; 386,000 kWh electricity; 12 million standard cubic feet of natural gas; and the equivalent of 1,000 metric tons CO2.
Countess and six other K-State interns will present their research to the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday, Sept. 15, at the K-State Pollution Prevention Institute, 2323 Anderson Ave., Suite 300.
