A recipient of Kansas State University's highest teaching honor has been chosen to lead the university's Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning.
Jana Fallin has been a professor and division chair in the university's department of music education since 1988. She also was the Coffman Chair for Distinguished Teaching Scholars in 2002-2003. She now will serve as the point person for Kansas State University's teaching mission. This means she'll be working with colleges, departments and faculty in all matters related to teaching, from conducting seminars or workshops to individualized teaching consultation.
"Jana brings an incredible amount of passion for teaching and students to the position," said Brian Niehoff, associate provost. "She is just full of energy and ideas. I am sure that she will provide excellent leadership for the center."
Fallin earned a bachelor's degree in music education from Baylor University and a master's and doctorate in the field from the University of Texas at Austin.
She began her career in education as an elementary music teacher in Austin, Texas. Before coming to Kansas State University, Fallin was a professor at the University of Northern Iowa, University of Southwestern Louisiana and Vanderbilt University. She was a teaching assistant at the University of Texas at Austin.
In addition to academic publications and presentations, Fallin has presented at workshops across the country.
"From early on, teaching excellence has been an interest of mine," Fallin said. "I believe teaching is at the core of a university. I've worked with the Center for the Advancement of Teaching and Learning for many years in various capacities. It's a wonderful part of K-State, and I'm honored to be the interim director."
