Bringing in the Bystander: Submit your name ideas

Submitted by Gabrielle Hull

The Center for Advocacy, Response and Education, or CARE, is starting a new program, Bringing in the Bystander, on K-State's campus.

Bringing in the Bystander provides participants with the skills to help them act safely when they see behavior that puts others at risk for violence, victimization, or perpetration. These include speaking out against rape myths and sexist language, supporting victim/survivors, and intervening in potentially violent situations.

An important aspect of this program is tailoring it to K-State. One way CARE hopes to accomplish this is by creating a name that reflects its unique presence in the K-State community. Other schools introducing similar programs have also gotten creative with its name. For example, Kansas University, being the Jayhawks, uses the name "Jayhawks Give a Flock." Similarly, Oregon State University, the Beavers, titled its program "Beavers Give a Dam."

The CARE office invites all K-State members to be creative in helping craft a name that reflects K-State's goal to support active bystanders and survivors. Please send submissions to ksucare@k-state.edu
