Volunteer Income Tax Assistance provides free tax preparation

Submitted by Jennifer Wilson

Students and staff may be able to take advantage of free local tax preparation services.

K-State Research and Extension's Riley County office supports the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program. Through the program, trained and IRS-certified volunteers assist taxpayers with household income of less than $54,000 with free electronic tax preparation and filing. Volunteers can prepare many types of simple federal and state tax returns.

Volunteers cannot assist those who itemize deductions, international students or members of the military.

Appointments are required and can be made online, by phone at 785-565-6426, or by emailing vitataxes@gmail.com

The site will be open through April 12.
