Retirement reception planned for Paul Burden
A retirement reception has been scheduled for Paul Burden, professor and assistant dean in education, to recognize his 38 years at K-State. The reception will be from 3:30-5:00 p.m. May 2 in 344 Bluemont Hall, with remarks at 4:15 p.m.
Burden's career began as a middle school teacher in Buffalo, New York, and later he completed his doctoral degree in curriculum and instruction at Ohio State University. Burden joined the K-State faculty in 1980 and ascended to the levels of department chair and assistant dean. He authored nine books and monographs, including two seminal textbooks used across the nation related to teaching methodology and classroom management.
Burden assisted with accreditation and led the college through a flawless accreditation visit in 2016. He has received the outstanding undergraduate teaching award from K-State along with numerous achievement awards including those for distinguished service from national organizations. He has mentored countless graduate students including several dissertation award winners.
