French students to perform scenes from Corneille's 'Le Cid'
French students from the advanced seminar, FREN 711: Mapping the Francophone World in the Seventeenth-Century, will perform in French several scenes from Pierre Corneille's famous 1637 tragicomedy, "Le Cid." Selected scenes will be performed from 4:30-5 p.m. Friday, May 4, in the Campus Creek Amphitheater next to the Leadership Studies Building.
The play is set in medieval Spain and tells the tale of two young lovers torn between their devotion to one another and their duty to their families and the court.
The actors are all French majors or graduate students who studied the play in class and wanted to share a few scenes with the campus community. They include undergraduate students Kiara O'Dea, Alex Vonderschmidt and Kole Wright as well as master's students Katherine Boulanger and Kwasi Ndjokunla Ketchore.
