Poster forum highlights engineering undergraduate research
The College of Engineering hosted its annual Undergraduate Research Poster Forum April 26 in the Engineering Complex atrium. The event featured 39 poster presentations from all eight engineering departments.
Research areas included advanced manufacturing, advanced materials and processes, autonomous and cyber-physical systems, nuclear engineering and radiation detection, biomedical applications, energy and power systems, environmental sustainability, STEM education and transportation.
Faculty, staff and graduate students were involved in judging the posters. The winning entries are as follows:
First place, Bernadette Drouhard, chemical engineering, "Nutrient Recovery from Anaerobically Treated Municipal Wastewater"; research adviser, Prathap Parameswaran, assistant professor of civil engineering.
Second place, Berkley White, biological systems engineering, "Biorefining Microalgae: Protein Recovery from Chlamydomonas Reinhardtii"; research adviser, Lisa Wilken, assistant professor of biological and agricultural engineering.
Third place, Andrew Foerster, civil engineering, "Inventing a New Ductile Composite System as Non-corrosive Lightweight Alternative to Steel"; research adviser, Hayder Rasheed, professor of civil engineering.
