Alumnus named to Egyptian cabinet post
K-State economics graduate Ashraf El-Araby has been named minister of planning and international cooperation for the Egyptian government. El-Araby earned his doctorate in economics from Kansas State University in 2004.
After graduating, El-Araby worked for the National Planning Institute in Cairo. He later worked as a consultant at the Arab Planning Institute in Kuwait and the Ministry of Planning and International Cooperation before accepting his current cabinet position.
El-Araby has published widely in the economics of human development and the competitiveness of the Egyptian labor market. He participated in the writing of the Human Development Report in 2011 -- issued by the United Nations -- and the Egyptian Human Development Report in 2008.
