Civil engineering faculty member and students present at ASCE international conference

Sunanda Dissanayake, professor of civil engineering and associate dean of the Graduate School, and her graduate students presented six papers at the American Society of Civil Engineers' International Conference on Transportation and Development July 15-18 in Pittsburgh. Five of the papers will be included in the conference proceedings.
Two oral presentations and four poster presentations included a wide variation of topics related to transportation engineering:
"Road User Behavior Survey to Identify Safety Issues of Elderly Drivers in Kansas," with former graduate student Sameera Koththigoda.
"Calibration of the Highway Safety Manual for Basic Freeway Sections," with doctoral student Imalka Matarage.
"Safety Effectiveness of Chevrons and Post-Mounted Delineators on Lane Departure Crashes," with doctoral student Uditha Galgamuwa.
"Calibration of the Highway Safety Manual for 4-legged Signalized Intersections in Urban and Suburban Areas in Kansas," with graduate student Rijesh Karmacharya.
"Effect of Distractions on the Crash Types of Teenage and Young-Adult Drivers in Kansas," with doctoral student Ibrahim Alfallaj.
"Safety Evaluation of Raised Speed Limits on Kansas Freeways using Empirical Bayes Method," with doctoral student Reza Shirazinejad.
