Submitted by Charles Thomeczek
Kansas State University's chapter of Delta Upsilon fraternity, a registered student organization, was recognized with several awards at the fraternity's annual Leadership Institute, July 26-29, in Scottsdale, Arizona.
For the third consecutive year and the sixth time in seven years, K-State's Delta Upsilon chapter was named the recipient of the 2018 Sweepstakes Trophy, the highest honor bestowed upon a Delta Upsilon undergraduate chapter. The Delta Upsilon Sweepstakes Trophy has been awarded annually since 1953 to acknowledge chapters whose achievements surpass all expectations. Each year, seven finalists and one winner are selected. This year marks the eighth consecutive year the K-State chapter has been a finalist. It also won the trophy is 2012, 2013, 2014, 2016 and 2017.
The chapter also took home the Alumni Engagement Award and the award for being the top chapter fundraiser for Delta Upsilon's Global Service Initiative.
During the 2017-2018 academic year, the K-State chapter's 115 members boasted a chapter GPA that was the highest of all Delta Upsilon's Sweepstakes' finalists. The chapter members had high attendance at the international fraternity's educational programs and raised more than $13,000 for the fraternity's Global Service Initiative, more than any other chapter. The Alumni Engagement Award recognized the chapter's efforts in building and maintaining strong alumni relationships through various communication methods and alumni events, as well as its success in fundraising for housing improvements.
