Geology department to feature Sarah Feakins in Ocean Discovery Lecture Series
The College of Arts and Sciences' geology department will host an Ocean Discovery Lecture featuring Sarah Feakins, associate professor of earth sciences at the University of Southern California, at 4 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 13, in 101 Thompson Hall.
Feakins will present, "Climate change and ecosystem transformation: Plant wax evidence form Indian Ocean drilling." She received her doctorate from Columbia University and was a National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration postdoctoral fellow at the California Institute of Technology. Feakins has worked on deep sea drilling cores for the past 15 years.
For more than 20 years, the Ocean Discovery Lecture Series — formerly the Distinguished Lecturer Series — has brought the remarkable scientific results and discoveries of the International Ocean Discovery Program and its predecessor programs to academic research institutions, museums and aquaria. Since 1991, more than 1,000 presentations to diverse audiences have been made through the lecture series.
