Research looks at waterfall's effects on endangered fish in San Juan River
Submitted by Communications and Marketing
Current and former Kansas State University biology researchers, along with co-authors from other universities and the Bureau of Reclamation, recently published the paper "Waterfall formation at a desert river-reservoir delta isolates endangered fishes," identifying the magnitude of endangered fish isolated downstream of a 20-foot waterfall on the San Juan River in Utah at the upper end of the Lake Powell Reservoir. The paper was published in the journal River Research and Applications.
Authors from K-State included Nate Cathcart, an August 2014 master's graduate in biology; Casey Pennock, doctoral student in biology; and Keith Gido, professor of biology.
