CARE office hosts Domestic Violence Awareness Month 2018 events
The K-State Center for Advocacy, Response and Education, or CARE, will host several events for Domestic Violence Awareness Month 2018.
Domestic Violence Awareness Month, #DVAM, began as a Day of Unity in 1981 and has grown into a national month of awareness during the month of October. The first Domestic Violence Awareness Month was observed in 1987, more than 30 years ago. This month is a time to celebrate survivors, raise awareness, and connect to others involved in prevention and response.
The CARE office invites the K-State community to the following events to learn, have dialogue and help spread awareness about interpersonal violence:
- "Wildcats Make A Pact" — 90-minute bystander intervention training from 5-6:30 p.m. Oct. 15 and 2:30-4 p.m. Oct. 17 and Oct. 30. Register online.
- "These Hands Don't Hurt" tabling event from 10:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Oct. 10 on Waters Hall Quad and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 11 and 12 in the K-State Student Union.
- "#Relationshipgoals" tabling event — 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct 16 and Oct. 18 in the K-State Student Union.
- "Why'd You Stay with Them?" Survivor Art Gallery, Oct. 22-26 in Kramer Dining Hall.
- "Unmasking Domestic Violence" from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Oct. 31 on Basco Student Plaza.
CARE advocates are available to meet with K-State students, faculty and staff members who have experienced sexual violence, dating or domestic violence, stalking, or sexual harassment. Advocates offer support and aid survivors in exploring their options.
