Women in STEM invited to attend Nov. 28 graduate student professional development luncheon
The K-State Advancement of Women in Science and Engineering office, or KAWSE, invites women in STEM graduate programs to attend a professional development luncheon, "Recognizing Impostor Syndrome and Reining It In," from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 28, in the K-State Student Union, Room 204. A free lunch will be provided for all attendees. Space is limited and an RSVP is required by Monday, Nov. 19.
Join Christine Aikens, professor of chemistry, and Chardie Baird, associate professor of sociology, for a lunch-hour chat about recognizing impostor syndrome and identifying strategies to address it. Impostor syndrome is something that commonly affects women in STEM, especially in graduate school. It is the false belief that one’s successes are the product of luck or fraud rather than skill. Aikens and Baird will share their personal experiences in dealing with impostor syndrome and explore strategies for moving forward.
