Xinzhou University, K-State participate in professional development program
The English Language Program, or ELP, is hosting 10 faculty members from Xinzhou University, Shanxi, China. Since July 1, they have participated in professional development and networking with peers in the program. A closing reception will be July 19 and they will depart on July 20.
At K-State, they have observed ELP classes, interacted with ELP faculty, and brushed up on the latest trends in language teaching by attending seminars and workshops. During their three weeks at Kansas State University, they also have had the opportunity to meet and discuss teaching issues with visiting English teachers from Brazil and Saudi Arabia. In addition, they have interacted with other offices on campus to see how K-State promotes good teaching. The Office of Assessment, K-State Libraries’ Center for the Advancement of Digital Scholarship, the Student Access Center, the Information Technology Assistance Center, and the Beach Museum of Art shared their expertise with the group.
In addition to activities on campus, the Chinese English professors have interacted with the local community. They enjoyed the Fourth of July activities in Wamego, shopping in Kansas City, a visit to the Lazy Heart D Bison Ranch, a tour of the Kansas State Capitol in Topeka, a game night at Manhattan Public Library, and a potluck meal in an American home.
