Statement on hiring freeze rumor
A television story earlier this week reported the university initiated a hiring freeze. While the university is facing budget cuts, there is not a universitywide hiring freeze. The online version of the story has been corrected.
As President Myers stated in his July 1 letter to campus, the university implemented an overall 4.3% budget reduction. How these reductions are implemented is being determined at the unit level.
"I understand why employees may be concerned by this story," said Jeff Morris, vice president for communications and marketing. "An announcement of a hiring freeze would always come from administration first. Our faculty and staff should know that administration is working diligently to prioritize budget initiatives and improve enrollment to generate future growth."
