Advisor Forum presents new Charlie Award to inaugural recipient
Submitted by Katelin Christianer-Donkers
The Advisor Forum Committee has selected Rebecca Dale, academic advisor for Global Campus, as the inaugural recipient for the Charlie Award for the month of August.
The Advisor Forum created the new Charlie Award to be given monthly to any advisor at K-State who has made an impact on advising, done a stellar job of helping students, found a new method that makes all of our lives easier, and/or has been awesome at their job. The award is named for Charlie Nutt, NACADA executive director, who has spent a large part of his career advocating and promoting the advising profession.
Dale's colleague Ashley Blake nominated her for her efforts in spearheading the ADV 101 Advisor Onboarding and Professional Development program.
"With a group of dedicated advisors, Rebecca helped to bring a much-needed training tool to campus, which can be utilized by everyone," Blake noted.
The Advisor Onboarding consists of five foundational modules that all advisors should complete to be successful at the core of their role. Completing these five modules will unlock the additional modules with more specific topics. This program was created with participants from all colleges, including primary-role advisors, faculty advisors, administrators, and students and has had an impact on the university advising community as a whole.
Dale's unique idea came to be after the 2017 annual NACADA conference. Upon return from this conference, Dale polled the advising community to determine the level of training advisors were receiving at K-State. The responses varied so greatly, that it was evident a program would see great use. Dale brought this idea to the Advisor Forum and a workgroup was formed. Over the following year, ADV 101 Advisor Onboarding and Professional Development came to fruition.
In addition to the ADV 101 Advisor Onboarding development, Dale spends a great deal of her personal time keeping this training accurate and up-to-date with the ever-changing university community. She has served on the leadership team of the Advisor Forum and been a stand out advisor in her day-to-day work. Dale says she loves what she does and enjoys that each day is a different day with students.
The Advisor Forum Committee is grateful for the work that Dale has completed on this campus and is pleased to provide this honor to her.
