Civil engineering senior wins national scholarship
Angie Mitchell, Kansas State University senior in civil engineering, Keosauqua, Iowa, has been awarded the 2019 American Institute of Steel Construction Education Foundation Scholarship in honor of Fred R. Havens, former owner of Haven Steel Products Inc., Haven.
The foundation awards more than $138,000 annually to full-time juniors, seniors and master's degree students in civil engineering, architectural engineering, construction engineering, construction management and architecture programs within the United States. Mitchell will receive $5,000 payable over the next two semesters.
Hayder Rasheed, professor, and Scott Schiff, teaching professor, both civil engineering, served as advisers and mentors during the application process and awarding of Mitchell’s scholarship.
In July, Mitchell was announced as recipient of the 2019 Eugene C. Figg Jr. Civil Engineering Scholarship from the American Society of Civil Engineers. Last year she served as a co-captain for the Kansas State University American Institute of Steel Construction Steel Bridge Team that competed in both regional and national competitions.
