Radio City Music Hall percussionist visits K-State
International performer and entrepreneur Mario DeCiutiis will visit the K-State Manhattan campus to present a clinic and lecture/performance on Friday, Sept. 13. K-State students also will participate in recording sessions with DeCiutiis Sept. 13-14. The clinic is scheduled for 2:30 p.m. in 135 McCain Auditorium and the lecture/performance is scheduled for 7:30 p.m. in McCain's Kirmser Hall. Both of these events are free and open to the public.
DeCiutiis is an accomplished musician who serves as principal percussionist of Radio City Music Hall in New York. He may be more well known among percussionists as the owner of Alternate Mode, a New England-based company that designs and produces Musical Instrument Digital Interface, known as MIDI, percussion controllers.
In his clinic, DeCiutiis will present many of the functions of the malletKAT, his MIDI controller for keyboard percussionists. His lecture/performance will include the malletKAT; jamKAT, a MIDI controller for hand percussionists; and some of his newest software. In both events, DeCiutiis will relate his development and use of these instruments to his Radio City performances, in which his instruments are used extensively.
