Theatre professor presents at international conference
Shannon Blake Skelton, assistant professor of theatre, recently chaired a panel titled "'A Cowboy in Repose': Memorializing Sam Shepard" at the annual Association for Theatre in Higher Education International Conference in Orlando, Florida.
The panel, the first of its kind since the death of the famed actor/playwright in 2017, featured papers on Shepard's influence on rock and roll and well as Shepard's dark vision of the American family. Skelton's paper centered on how Shepard was memorialized in newspapers, on blogs and within artistic communities. Skelton has previously published on Shepard most notably with his book, "The Late Work of Sam Shepard," and in a recent essay contained in "Visions of Tragedy in Modern American."
