Sodexo to provide food service to Union, other campus dining locations
Submitted by Communications and Marketing
Kansas State University is expanding its partnership with Sodexo. Beginning Jan. 1, 2013, Sodexo will provide retail and catering services in the K-State Student Union.
This change comes as a result of Chartwells, the Union’s current food service provider, serving notice of its intent to terminate its agreement on Dec. 31.
Sodexo will manage food service at all current dining service locations, including Hale Library, Trotter Hall and the Center for Child Development.
Bill Smriga, director of the K-State Student Union, expects a seamless transition to take place between semesters.
"The K-State Student Union looks forward to this new partnership and the positive changes that are expected to come from it,” Smriga said.
Students took an active role in the decision.
"Student Government welcomes Sodexo to our Student Union. As we move forward with this transition, SGA remains committed to working with the K-State Student Union to ensure the best dining experience for students," said Nate Spriggs, student body president.
All existing catering contracts and pricing will be honored, and current pricing in all retail areas will remain the same through June 30, 2013. Sodexo will honor existing promotion and discount programs such as Cat Cash bonus bucks and the refillable mug program. All current Chartwells hourly employees will be offered the opportunity to retain their jobs.
Sodexo has been a proud partner of K-State Athletics since 2010, providing catering and concessions services for all athletic events. The on-site Sodexo team will ensure high quality food will continue to be served at a great value for the campus and with excellent customer service.
