Public invited to The People's Forum
The Staley School of Leadership Studies will host The People's Forum from 7-9 p.m. on Oct. 10 in Town Hall of the Leadership Studies Building. Doors open at 6:30 p.m.
The People's Forum is a city commission candidate forum for the upcoming election in Manhattan. Seven out of eight candidates will be in attendance: Aaron Estabrook, Kaleb James, Linda Morse, Mauren Sheahan, Mary Renee Shirk, Sarah Siders and Vincent Tracey.
A family room for parents and children will be available at this event.
Issues that candidates will speak on include:
- Rental inspections
- Living wages
- Climate change
- Affordable housing
- Biking and walking
- Infrastructure
- Participatory budgeting
- LGBTQ rights
Structure of forum:
A select group of community organizations has prepared specific "asks" of each of the candidates. Speakers will share a brief personal impact story, followed by the related organizational "ask"; city commission candidates will have a brief, timed period to respond directly to each speaker's story and organizational "ask" before moving on to the next organization's speaker.
