Social media used to engage university community in 150th celebration
Submitted by Communications and Marketing
Kansas State University is having a birthday, and it's a big one: 150 years old.
Beginning Feb. 14, 2013, K-State will begin a nine-month celebration of its 150 years of improving the knowledge and lives of Kansans and people around the world. Although events won't begin until 2013, sesquicentennial announcements and event plans are already being posted on social media.
These social media outlets are the best way to receive updates and news about the nine-month celebration, said Megan Umscheid, university project coordinator for the president's office and coordinator for the sesquicentennial celebration.
K-State sesquicentennial information will be posted at:
- Website: http://www.k-state.edu/150.
- Twitter: @KState150
- Hashtag: #KState150
- Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/KState
Similarly, online-only features will be posted through these social media channels. Plans currently include daily features about notable Wildcats throughout the university's history, and facts and memories about the topics of the bi-weekly Brown Bag Lecture Series.
"Social media is an unparalleled approach in reaching out to our university constituents about K-State's sesquicentennial celebration," Umscheid said. "It's a great way to engage our entire K-State family -- whether they are based in Manhattan or overseas. The events and activities planned for the celebration will facilitate in telling the K-State story. Social media enables us to bring the celebration to our stakeholders around the world."
