Gender Collective hosts Transgender Day of Resistance
K-State's Gender Collective, a registered departmental student organization, invites you to attend their recognition event of Transgender Day of Resistance next week.
Transgender Day of Resistance/Remembrance is an annual observance on Nov. 20 that honors the memory of the transgender people whose lives were lost to acts of anti-transgender violence that year. So far in 2019, 23 known lives have been lost to anti-transgender violence in the United States.
This event will take place at noon on Wednesday, Nov. 20, in the courtyard of the K-State Student Union.
Nyla Foster, the project coordinator and advocate for the Kansas City Anti-Violence Project, will be the keynote speaker and talk on their experiences and give us our call to action to help honor, support, and protect Trans* Lives.
The organization will also host a gallery exhibit in the Chapman Art Gallery in Willard Hall throughout the week. This space is designed to provide information to attendees regarding the barriers that transgender people face and serve to honor the lives of those lost.
A small remembrance vigil will take place at 5:30 p.m. in the art gallery that Wednesday. All are welcome to attend.
