New hire to boost university's profile as a food leader in Kansas, KC

Manreet Singh Bhullar has been appointed to a new research assistant professor position for the College of Agriculture's Food Science Institute and Department of Horticulture and Natural Resources.
In this position, Bhullar will develop a produce safety research program informed by and addressing the needs of Kansas growers and other produce and related industries in Kansas and across the region.
Bhullar, a recent graduate of Iowa State University with a doctorate in food science, has worked with local produce growers to ensure compliance with the Food Safety Modernization Act Produce Safety Rule, conducted risk-related research at various steps in the produce supply chain, and taught critical courses for growers and food manufacturers on federal rules and regulations.
"K-State is a world leader in researching and supporting global food systems," said Jeanette Thurston, director of the Food Science Institute. "The expertise Dr. Bhullar brings will complement the efforts of research and extension faculty across K-State and strengthen our continued work to ensure a safe, secure and nutritious food supply for a growing population."
Bhullar will be located at K-State's Olathe campus and begin working on Feb. 10.
