College of Health and Human Sciences announces four new minors
Submitted by College of Health and Human Sciences
Beginning with fall enrollment, K-State students will have four new minors to choose from in the College of Health and Human Sciences.
The K-State Center on Aging has developed a gerontology minor. The minor is 15 credit hours of study that includes six credit hours of required courses and nine credit hours of electives taken from a list of approved gerontology courses offered in departments across the university. Students interested in the minor should schedule an appointment with the Center on Aging advisor by phone, 785-532-5945, or by email, gerontology@k-state.edu.
The School of Family Studies and Human Services has released three new minors, two focusing on early childhood education and one interdisciplinary minor.
The children in group settings minor is 16 credit hours of study that provides the theoretical and empirical foundation for best practice in the field of early care and education. Students are provided with the requisite knowledge of the developmental changes that typically occur in the early childhood years, variations in development that may occur and how best to support children's learning and development.
The pre-kindergarten education minor is available to students enrolled in either the family and consumer sciences education program or the elementary education program. This program of 16 credit hours builds on pre-service teacher education coursework required for the family and consumer sciences education and elementary education programs and addresses content knowledge and skills needed for licensed pre-kindergarten teachers in Kansas.
The interdisciplinary conflict resolution minor will provide students an understanding of the theoretical and practical aspects of analyzing and resolving conflict within the context of a variety of academic disciplines and professional careers. The minor of 15 credit hours lets students select one of three tracks: organizational, family and legal.
Students interested in one of the three minors in the School of Family Studies and Human Services can apply online at hhs.k-state.edu/fshs or contact Kiersten Wukitsch at kierst2@k-state.edu.
