Entomologist presents research at international symposium
Ludek Zurek, associate professor of entomology, presented a talk, "Microbial Ecology and Epithelial Immunity of the Sand Fly Lutzomyia longipalpis," at the 7th International Symposium on Phlebotomine Sandflies in Kusadasi, Turkey, April 25-30. The gastro-intestinal tract of insects is an ideal habitat for large and diverse microbial communities. Zurek's lab is interested in sand flies - microbial interactions from perspectives of oviposition, larval development, innate immunity and vector capacity for Leishmania parasites. More information on his research is available at here.
