College of Business Administration presents teaching, research awards

Submitted by Communications and Marketing

Kansas State University's College of Business Administration will recognize two faculty members for outstanding contributions in teaching and research at the college's commencement ceremony Dec. 8 in Bramlage Coliseum.

Dawn Deeter-Schmelz, professor of marketing and J.J. Vanier chair in relational selling, has been awarded the 2012 Kansas State Bank Teaching Award, and William Turnley, professor of management and Sam and Karen Forrer chair of business ethics, has received the 2012 College of Business Administration Outstanding Contributions in Research Award.

Deeter-Schmelz was selected for the teaching award for her original teaching style. As the instructor for Advanced Selling and Sales Management, Deeter-Schmelz has developed and integrated a sales lab into the curriculum.

"It is clear from Dr. Deeter-Schmelz's strong teaching evaluations that students appreciate her teaching style and recognize the value of the role-playing exercises emphasized in her classes," said Mark Linville, chair of the college's recognition and awards committee, and associate professor of accounting.

Turnley was selected for the research award based on the number and quality of his research publications produced in the past year and for his service on four editorial boards. He also was named the Outstanding Reviewer for the Journal of Organizational Behavior for two consecutive years.

"In the past year, Dr. Turnley has published five research articles in top academic journals such as the Journal of Applied Psychology and the Journal of Organizational Behavior, which adds to his already impressive research record," Linville said.
