Kathrine Walker Schlageck named recipient of KAWSE Award
Kathrine Walker Schlageck, associate curator of education at K-State's Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art, is this year's recipient of the KAWSE Award.
The award honors exceptional efforts undertaken by a K-State faculty or staff member to enrich girls' and women's lives in STEM disciplines. Schlageck will be recognized with an engraved plaque at KAWSE's Women of Distinction Recognition Ceremony on Sept. 17, or as soon as possible thereafter depending on COVID-19, and will receive a $500 award.
Schlageck's dedication to integrating art and STEAM learning is clearly demonstrated in the depth and breadth of programming she has developed and facilitated at the Beach Museum of Art. She leads in K-State's land-grant mission of making evidence-based knowledge broadly available and fostering the synergy between art and STEM. She has developed partnerships with K-State's math department, area schools, The Meadow Outdoor Learning Laboratory, and K-State's Insect Zoo, as just a few examples. Finally, she has offered hands-on workshops for KAWSE's middle school and high school programs, GROW and EXCITE.
