Physicists attend international conference in Japan
Seven members of the J. R. Macdonald Laboratory in the department of physics attended the third International Conference on Attosecond Physics and the 12th International Conference on Multi-photon Physics on the campus of Hokkaido University in Sapporo, Japan, July 3-9.
Two invited talks were given by faculty members: Matthias Kling, assistant professor, presented at the International Conference on Multi-photon Physics, and Chii-Dong Lin, university distinguished professor, at the International Conference on Attosecond Physics.
Other participants from K-State physics included: Lew Cocke, university distinguished professor; Carlos Trallero, assistant professor; Anh Thu Le, research assistant professor; Guillaume Laurent, research associate; and Sara Golin, instructor.
Many former graduate students, postdocs and visitors of the laboratory were also at these meetings. The mild weather and elegant setting of Hokkaido University offered the international participants an opportunity to listen to recent results from leading laboratories and exchange ideas. The participants also went to the old fishing village of Otaru, visiting its canal area, the herring mansion and famous sushi restaurants.
The J.R. Macdonald Laboratory is one of the premier laboratories in the world in ultrafast and ultra-intense laser physics. In 2009 the Second Attosecond Physics Conference was on the K-State campus, drawing more than 230 participants, including more than 100 from foreign countries.
