K-State celebrates National Hispanic Heritage Month
Sept. 15 to Oct. 15 is celebrated nationwide as National Hispanic Heritage Month. Diversity and Multicultural Student Affairs, Alianza, H.A.L.O. and the Board of Latino Organizations will host a kickoff from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. today, Sept. 15, in the K-State Student Union courtyard. Stop by to learn more about Hispanic and Latino cultures!
National Hispanic Heritage Month traditionally honors and celebrates the heritage, culture and contributions of both Hispanics and Latinos throughout history. It was originally established as Hispanic Heritage Week in 1968 but was expanded and made into law as a monthlong celebration on Aug.17, 1988. This time frame was chosen to honor the anniversaries of independence for Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras and Nicaragua (Sept. 15), Mexico (Sept. 16) and Chile (Sept. 18).
