Food safety professor gives keynote address at Australian conference
Douglas Powell, professor of food safety in diagnostic medicine and pathobiology, gave an invited keynote address on improving food safety audits at the 18th Australian HACCP conference in the Gold Coast, Australia, on Sept. 14. Drawing on numerous examples of complex food safety outbreaks, Powell told the audience of food retailers, processors, farmers, auditors and regulators that third party audits must be vigorously evaluated and are only one component of establishing a culture that values and promotes microbial food safety.
