DMSA offering student support spaces beginning today
Dear K-State students,
2020 has brought upon us many unforeseen challenges. We recognize this has been a difficult semester for you all as students and it has taken a physical and mental toll on many. From the impacts of COVID-19, the civil unrest and the persistent racial trauma experienced by our BIPOC community to the most recent disruptions during KSUnite, Diversity and Multicultural Student Affairs continues to offer support to students.
Beginning today, Friday, Oct. 23, we will offer both virtual and in-person student support spaces. This will take place every Friday for the next few weeks through Friday, Nov. 13. These spaces are open to any student desiring to connect with a professional staff member during these difficult times. These are not official counseling sessions, though we are collaborating with Counseling Services for those who may need it.
Virtual sessions will run from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. You can register for those sessions by accessing the DMSA Virtual student support space registration form. For those who prefer to meet with someone in person, those sessions will run from 2-3 p.m. in the Multicultural Students Office in Room 3 of the K-State Student Union.
We understand that some may not be comfortable meeting in a group setting and would prefer a one-to-one appointment. If so, you can reach out to us at ksudiversity@k-state.edu or Counseling Services at counsel@k-state.edu to schedule an appointment. Counseling Services staff will be available daily for 15-minute same-day meetings, as needed, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. An after-hours crisis line is also available after 5 p.m. For students interested in connecting with others, Counseling Services is also available for drop-in virtual meetings throughout the week at 11 a.m. Mondays, and 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Thursdays.
