Submitted by Office Of International Programs
Sara Boro, Education Abroad advisor, was recently announced as the winner of the NAFSA: Association of International Educators, Region II Rising Star Young Leader Award for 2020.
NAFSA: Association of International Educators is the world's largest nonprofit association dedicated to international education and exchange. The State of Kansas falls in Region II, which includes Arizona, Colorado, Kansas, Montana, Nebraska, New Mexico, Utah and Wyoming. As the Region II winner, Boro is further nominated for the national award, competing against the award recipients from the other NAFSA Regions.
Created in 2015, the Rising Star Young Leaders Award recognizes a professional who has impacted the field of international education during their first five years of their career.
Boro began working in the Education Abroad office at K-State in 2016 and immediately made her presence felt.
"I am grateful to my director, Joe Milostan, and assistant director, Brent Holliday, for nominating me for this award and for the NAFSA Region II awards committee for selecting me," Boro said. "This was very unexpected and I am honored to receive this award."
"Sara is passionate about all things international," said Joe Milostan, Education Abroad director. "In addition to working as an Education Abroad advisor, Sara has taken several language courses at K-State, and is very involved in the international community at K-State and in Manhattan."
Boro also serves as the state representative for the International Educators of Kansas.
Boro is the first person from Kansas State University to win this award from NAFSA, and only the second person from Kansas State University to win any of the annual awards presented by NAFSA. Please join us in congratulating her on this great honor.
"This is a well-deserved recognition for Sara Boro as she has hit the ground running since joining the education abroad staff in the office of international programs," said Grant Chapman, associate provost for international programs. "She is constantly leading, promoting and supporting the internationalization efforts of the university."
