Legislative Update
This week begins the third week of the Kansas legislative session, last week was a shorter week with the Martin Luther King holiday and House and Senate meeting Pro Forma on Jan 20.
Last week the Kansas Society of Professional Engineers requested a bill be introduced to extend the University Engineering Initiative Act until 2031. View a PDF of the bill HB2101.
This week on Tuesday, Jan. 26, the House Federal and State Affairs Committee will hold a hearing on House Bill 2006, changing the designation of Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples Day.
On Wednesday, Jan. 27, the House Education Committee will hold a hearing on House Bill 2085, "Creating the student's right to know act to provide information on postsecondary options."
Also on Jan. 27, the House Higher Education Budget Committee will review the budget analysis and recommendation process for higher education institutions budgets presented by Kansas Legislative Research staff.
Finally, the House Commerce, Labor and Economic Development Committee will hear a presentation on Thursday, Jan. 28, from BioKansas.
The Kansas Legislature will provide virtual access to committee meetings and floor action throughout the 2021 legislative session. Links to access the meetings can be found at www.kslegislature.org/li/.
The Office of Government Relations will again provide weekly Legislative Review Sessions through the remainder of the session to discuss the previous week and upcoming hearings and meetings. The next Legislative Review Session will be at noon Friday, Jan. 29, Kansas Day, by Zoom. Zoom details are below.
