Pedersen invited to speak on online learning best practices
Global Campus Dean Karen Pedersen was an invited speaker for a Higher Learning Commission online education webinar series. The series of HLC-sponsored webinars was designed for institutional leadership to solidify their understanding of online learning best practices, especially in light of the movement to remote instruction over the past year.
Each webinar in the series included a brief overview, followed by a lengthy question and answer segment for specific attendee questions. While Pedersen's session focused on the evaluation of online faculty members, other sessions showcased strategies to improve retention, ways to engender equitable treatment for online students and assessment strategies.
The webinar series was underwritten by a grant from the Lumina Foundation to support the rapid shift many institutions made in their instructional approaches as a result of COVID-19.
Pedersen was honored to be selected to support the professional development efforts of the Higher Learning Commission, K-State's institutional accreditor.
"I have learned so much in my 20-plus-year career in online learning," Pedersen said. "It was a pleasure to share some insights and perspectives with institutional leadership wherever they might be in their professional online learning journey."
