Legislative Update

Submitted by Sue Peterson

This is the eighth week of the Kansas legislative session, known as turnaround week. This week, all bills, not exempt, must be passed out of the House or Senate depending on the Chamber where the bill originated. The bills are then heard and deliberated in the opposite house. Not all bills will be passed this year. Any bill not passed in the 2021 Kansas Legislative session remains alive until the 2022 session. This week no committee meetings are scheduled as all debate and deliberations on bills will take place in the House and Senate chambers.

The Kansas Legislature will provide virtual access to committee meetings and floor action throughout the 2021 legislative session. Links to access the meetings can be found at kslegislature.org/li/.

The Office of Government Relations will again provide weekly Legislative Review Sessions through the remainder of the session to discuss the previous week and upcoming hearings and meetings. The next Legislative Review Session will be at noon Friday, March 5, by Zoom. Zoom details are below. You will be required to sign in with your K-State eID and password to access the meeting.
