Om Perumal to present Anatomy and Physiology Seminar
Om Perumal, professor and head of the pharmaceutical sciences department at the College of Pharmacy and Allied Health Professions, South Dakota State University, will present, "Protein core-shell nanocarriers for oral drug delivery applications" at the next Anatomy and Physiology seminar at 4 p.m. Tuesday, March 16, via Zoom.
Perumal completed his doctorate in pharmaceutics from the National Institute of Pharmaceutical Education and Research in India. He completed his postdoctoral training at the University of Kentucky and Wayne State University. He has more than 15 years of experience in pharmaceutics and drug delivery systems. His group has developed several biodegradable protein nanoparticles for oral, topical and parenteral drug administration.
Perumal's group also has developed localized drug delivery approaches to the breast for the prevention and treatment of cancer. The drug delivery platforms developed by his group have led to five issued patents and technology development licenses to start-up companies. As a principal investigator or co-investigator, Perumal has received funding of around $4 million. He served as the editor-in-chief of the Journal of Biomedical Nanotechnology from 2011-17 and is the recipient of the Patricia Walker Skin Cancer Research Award from Skin Cancer Foundation, F.O.
