Student organization registration opening for 2021-2022
Submitted by Center for Student Involvement
The Center for Student Involvement typically opens the next year’s registration process for student organizations at the start of April, but that process was delayed this year due to the Student Organization Registration Policy being under review as part of the Action Plan for a More Inclusive K-State. While the policy is still under review, the center's staff have decided to move ahead with opening registration to provide students the opportunity to complete this process before the end of the semester.
Additional details about the steps required for completing the registration process can be located on the Center for Student Involvement website. The website also provides organizations the ability to keep up to date with what requirements have been completed and their status in the process via the Progress Tracking button.
The group of faculty, staff, and students reviewing the Student Organization Registration Policy are finalizing a proposal outlining some short-term adjustments which will be shared with university administrators for review before officially being added to the policy. Two of those recommended changes are being implemented immediately with the opening of this registration period.
First, the student organization registration period will remain open throughout the calendar year — referred to as a "rolling registration" — allowing students to complete the requirements when they are able, without penalty. A new priority deadline will be created 30 business days following the opening of the annual registration; the priority deadline for the 2021-2022 registration will be Friday, May 28. Those organizations which complete the requirements by this deadline will be eligible for some small incentives including priority access for Activities Carnival and having a spotlight of the organization on the center's digital displays. Information about these, and any additional priority deadline incentives will be made available on the Center for Student Involvement website. Organizations unable to meet the priority deadline will continue to be able to register when they are able throughout the summer and next academic year.
Second, a new series of statuses have been established including what benefits are associated with each and what registration process must be completed to receive full benefits. The status of each organization will be identified via the Progress Tracking button on the Center for Student Involvement website noted above. The following statuses will be used immediately, while additional statuses will be announced in subsequent communications.
- Active — organizations which have completed the annual registration requirements for the current academic year. Organizations with this status will have full access to the benefits outlined in the Student Organization Registration Policy. To maintain this status for the following academic year, organizations must complete requirements outlined under "Annual Registration" on the Center for Student Involvement website.
- Inactive — organizations which have not completed annual registration for the current academic year. Organizations with this status will have no benefits. To become "Active" the organizations must complete the requirements outlined under "Annual Registration" on the Center for Student Involvement website.
Additional proposed adjustments to the Student Organization Registration Policy can be expected in the coming weeks. Announcements will be shared in K-State Today as more information is available.
The Center for Student Involvement staff appreciate the campus’ patience during the delay in getting some of these updates in place before opening the process for 2021-2022.
