Record-setting year for architectural engineering and construction science department scholarships
Submitted by Katie Loughmiller
More than $425,000 in department-sponsored scholarships for the 2021-2022 academic year will be issued to more than 90 current students and 120 prospective students by the GE Johnson Department of Architectural Engineering and Construction Science in the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering.
This single-year record distribution by the department includes $357,000 in scholarships provided by 98 alumni and industry supporters through the KSU Foundation, $60,000 in scholarships to incoming freshmen and transfer students provided through the GE Johnson Enhancement Fund, and $10,000 in scholarships awarded by department-sponsored student organizations.
"The department scholarships have truly inspired me to work as hard as possible to be in a place where I can provide for a student in my shoes one day," said Austin Wiley, senior in construction science and management. "The opportunities these scholarships provide students show the true nature of our department and its dedication to help students in any way possible to achieve our goals."
Kylee Badura, junior in architectural engineering, is grateful for the support she received from the scholarship program as it helped her financially as well as opening up additional opportunities.
"The department scholarship program has greatly helped with the cost of tuition and allowed me to take part in student organizations and professional conferences that may otherwise have been financially restricted," Badura said. "These opportunities allowed me to grow in my personal and professional development."
