DeGroat to present at 2013 Western Academy of Management annual meeting in Santa Fe, N.M.
Art DeGroat, director of military affairs and a doctoral student in educational leadership, has been accepted and selected to co-present his collaborative work, "Encouraging the Development of Positive Character Strength Profiles," on March 15 at the 2013 Western Academy of Management annual meeting in Santa Fe, N.M.
He will co-present with Thomas Wright, Larkin distinguished professor of management, Fordham University. Wright and DeGroat have been working on building positive character strength profiles and occupation-based models for Army ROTC cadets undergoing pre-professional development in the higher education setting. This work will be presented as part of the ethics and spirituality track of this annual workshop.
"Our effort to apply the research in this area of character-based leadership towards pre-professional education and development of Army ROTC cadets holds great promise in my judgement," DeGroat said. "My 30 years of experience in the practice of military professional development has been that, character development has at best, been achieved as a by-product of programs and not directly addressed. The work of Dr. Tom Wright and others in this field is at sufficient level to create some evidence-based approaches to put into practice. This is what we are attempting to do currently with cadets at Kansas State University."
