School of Music, Theatre, and Dance offers community cello classes

Submitted by Jeffrey Ward

The Community School for the Performing Arts, a K-State School of Music, Theatre, and Dance, and Manhattan Arts Center partnership, continues to grow.

The newest program is Group Cello Class. These classes will introduce the instrument and proper technique, working toward learning to play in a group. The cello is included in the tuition. These classes will be taught by cellist Brett Lytle.

We are beginning the program by targeting fourth and fifth graders and we will add more groups as the program grows. Like all of our programs, we offer generous scholarships for students whose household income meets the requirements for the federal free and reduced lunch program.

The 40-minutes classes will begin Sept. 20 and take place in the music program portions of McCain Auditorium on the K-State Manhattan campus. Group sizes are being kept small — so register early.

The Community School for the Performing Arts also has openings in a number of studios for private lessons, including violin/viola, cello, piano, flute, clarinet, organ, recorder, voice and more.

For registration and information, visit the website or call 785-537-4420.
