Business of Sports and Entertainment Speaker Series presentation: Wichita Wind Surge
Katie Woods, director of marketing and community engagement for the Minnesota Twins' Double-A affiliate Wichita Wind Surge, will be the next speaker in the Business of Sports and Entertainment Speaker Series. The presentation is scheduled at 11:30 a.m. today, Thursday, Oct. 7, in 1088 College of Business Building.
Woods has more than 10 years of experience in minor league baseball, earning recognition as Minor League Baseball Female Executive of the Year three times. Before joining the Wind Surge, she served in the role of assistant general manager for the Lancaster JetHawks. In her current role, Woods oversees all outbound marketing, including traditional and digital buys. She also manages community partnerships, promotions, game entertainment, charitable programs, website and social media management, and media relations for the team.
After cancellation of the 2020 season due to COVID-19, the Wind Surge reached the postseason in their inaugural campaign. The team plays in the 10,000-plus seat Riverfront Stadium in Wichita.
The speaker series is organized by Doug Walker, marketing professor, in support of the MKTG630: Sports Marketing class and the college's business of sports and entertainment certificate program. Visitors from the public and our campus community are encouraged to join us for the presentation, with no ticket required.
