Faber to present 'Pulling back the curtain: Illuminating the how and why of learning in our classes' today
Submitted by Teaching and Learning Center
As part of the Teaching and Learning Center's Professional Development series, Andie Faber, assistant professor of modern languages, will present "Pulling back the curtain: Illuminating the how and why of learning in our classes" from noon to 1 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 3, via Zoom.
Guiding students to establish and measure their own objectives and processes puts them in the driver’s seat and helps them to develop intrinsic motivation and be autonomous learners. This session will address metacognition in three parts: (i) equipping students to make meaning of course concepts; (ii) focusing on self-evaluation, including asking questions like what goals do I have for myself? How am I progressing? How should this work be evaluated?; and (iii) establishing dialogue with students to address their questions and concerns, not only pertaining to course content but also connected to their thinking and development of related competencies.
