APDesign hires director of academic services
Mitzi Farmer will join the College of Architecture, Planning & Design Office of Student and Academic Services as director of academic services, effective Jan. 31.
Farmer joins APDesign after serving as academic adviser and graduate program coordinator in the Carl R. Ice College of Engineering’s Alan Levin Department of Mechanical and Nuclear Engineering for nearly nine years. She received a Bachelor of Science in English-secondary education from Austin Peay State University and completed her Master of Education in secondary education in 2008. She completed the graduate certificate in conflict resolution at K-State in 2020. She was also the Teaching and Learning Center's fellow for the 2020-2021 academic year.
Farmer believes developing authentic relationships, embracing new knowledge and fostering a sense of belonging are fundamental elements for student persistence and retention.
In her new role, Farmer will be one of three directors in APDesign’s Office of Student and Academic Services, with her directorship uniquely attuned to student support, advising, academic and curricular affairs. She will lead APDesign’s team of professional advisors and degree analyst. Her experience as a K-State First university experience instructor positions her to be a great asset to APDesign and to continue the college’s strengths of supporting first-year student retention and advancement through professional degree programs, with a high graduation rate and employment placement.
“We are thrilled Mitzi has chosen to join our APDesign community and we eagerly anticipate the talents and contributions she will bring to our student-centered model of learning,” said Katie Kingery-Page, associate dean of APDesign.
