K-State Theatre presents 'Collective Rage: A Play in 5 Betties' Feb. 18-19
Submitted by Jerry Jay Cranford
K-State Theatre will present "Collective Rage: A Play in 5 Betties" by Jen Silverman at 7:30 p.m. Friday, Feb. 18, and Saturday, Feb. 19, in the Purple Masque Theatre in West Memorial Stadium. This production contains profanity, discussions of sexuality and briefly mentions self-harm. Admission is free.
Five different women named Betty collide. Betty is rich; Betty is lonely; Betty's busy working on her truck; Betty wants to talk about love, but Betty needs to hit something; and Betty keeps using a small hand mirror to stare into parts of herself she's never examined. Their anger, love and loneliness are comedically but honestly rendered in this occasionally absurd, stylized, queer-centric play that speaks openly and often about sexuality.
We welcome you to our first production of the spring 2022 Purple Masque series, featuring the work of student director Morgan Boyer. This play originated in Washington, D.C., at the Woolly Mammoth Theatre then transferred off-Broadway in New York during fall 2018. It was immediately hailed as a New York Times Critic Pick for must-see theatre.
