Digital visualization of 3D solids to be presented at Art and Math Seminar
Submitted by Natalia Rozhkovskaya
On April 21, Vera Viana will speak at the Art and Math Seminar from noon to 1 p.m. via Zoom. Registration is required to participate in this seminar.
Viana will present on her experience of working with digital tools for visualization and study of polyhedra, which are 3D solids made by joining together polygons. The talk may be of special interest to students and faculty studying structural geometry, architecture, 3D modeling software and visualization tools in mathematics education.
Viana is a faculty member in the architecture department at the University of Porto and the director of the Portuguese Geometry and Drawing Teachers’ Association. Her research focuses on geometry education with advanced digital tools, relationships between architecture and mathematics and the transformative potential of digital culture in higher education. Viana is a co-chair and organizing committee member of several international conferences in architecture and mathematics. She is an editorial board member of the Nexus Network Journal.
The online Art and Math Seminar, organized by the K-State mathematics department, is dedicated to visual creativity inspired by mathematical sciences. View the complete seminar schedule and registration form.
