Announcement of graduate elective in Professional Ethics, MGMT 897, for fall 2013

Submitted by Olivia Blanco

Graduate students from several areas may wish to consider enrolling in the Professional Ethics elective, which will be offered in the College of Business Administration on Wednesdays from 5:30 to 8:00 p.m. in fall 2013. This elective has been well received by graduate students in the past, including those from accounting, management, political science, public administration, engineering, sociology and education.

Diane Swanson, professor of management, designed this seminar and has taught it for several years. Because enrollment is strictly capped at 18 graduate students, the classroom environment is interactive to accommodate student interests.

The topics covered in this elective include value-based leadership of organizational culture, codes of ethics, organizational citizenship, fraud prevention, dimensions of white collar crime, personal and organizational ethics, stakeholder management, the nature of bureaucracy, the role of regulatory agencies, voluntary standards such as the Global Reporting Initiative, and compliance with legal standards, including Sarbanes-Oxley and Federal Sentencing Guidelines for Organizations.

If you have any questions about this graduate elective, please contact professor Swanson at swanson@k-state.edu.
